A Simple Way to Lasting Productivity

|

No, this is not another article about waking up at 5 AM or time-blocking your whole day to be more productive. Get rid of all the bullsh*t and keep it simple.

This article will introduce a simple way to lasting productivity. It is so simple that you are already doing it, but you can be doing it even better.

What is this simple way to lasting productivity? Consistency.

Consistency is how muscles form, businesses build, and people become successful. It is the foundation for all success.

The good thing is you are already consistent with many things you do in life, but we must learn how consistency boosts productivity. By the end of this article, you will know how the two are related and work hand in hand.

What is Consistency?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, consistency is “the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way.”

It is the expectation that you will continuously behave or act exactly or similarly.

Consistency shows in somebody who goes to work or the gym every day. On the flip side, it is evident in somebody who drinks or does drugs every day.

The results of consistency can either work in your favor or against you, depending on the behaviors or habits in which you are being consistent.

Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it… he who doesn’t… pays it.

Albert Einstein

While being consistent is much more difficult with positive behaviors than negative ones, consistency with positive behaviors will lead to lasting productivity.

Ultimately, we must know how consistency relates to productivity. Once we know this, we can leverage consistency in certain areas of our lives for success.

Key Takeaways

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, consistency is “the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or of always happening in a similar way.”

The results of consistency can either work in your favor or against you, depending on the behaviors or habits in which you are being consistent.

While being consistent is much more difficult with positive behaviors than negative ones, consistency with positive behaviors will lead to lasting productivity.

How Consistency Relates to Productivity

Since all humans are consistent with certain behaviors or actions, whether positive or negative, we must know how consistency relates to productivity.

If we are saying consistency is a simple way to lasting productivity, why is that so?

Well, let’s find out!

Consistent Efforts Compound

When you are consistent time and time again, those consistent efforts compound. Even if the efforts are average, consistent efforts are much better than no effort.

For example,

Person A goes to the gym for an hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Person B goes to the gym for an hour and a half on Monday and Friday.

In the above example, person A will ultimately gain more muscle mass than person B due to their consistent efforts on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

While person B is still consistent and goes to the gym for the same amount of time, person A exhibits more frequent consistency throughout the days of the week.

If you are to exhibit sub-par efforts, at least let them be consistent, as this will help solidify habit(s) and ultimately lead to future productivity.

Consistency Builds Confidence

Over time, as you show up day in and day out, you will realize that consistency builds confidence

When you are confident, you will continue to choose productive behavior and actions that help to increase your confidence. This confidence will show within yourself and others.

As for yourself, you will develop a sense of self-confidence as you prove to yourself that you can be consistent and repeatedly do what it takes to be successful.

When you are inconsistent, getting down on yourself is easy, and viewing yourself or a task as a failure. If you view yourself or something as a failure, you will quit engaging in productive behavior or actions in your life or toward that task.

Instead of getting down on yourself for skipping a day or giving up, your consistency will help prove that you have what it takes and will ultimately keep you productive.

As for other people, people are much more likely to trust and follow somebody who is consistent as an inconsistent person reflects instability. Typically, people will stay away from unstable people.

If you have others looking to you for guidance, it will help increase your chances of engaging in productive behavior or actions to help the greater good.

To build self-confidence and have others view you as a confident individual, stay consistent and know that consistency builds confidence. When confident, productive behavior and actions are to follow.

Productivity Does Not Exist Without Consistency

Lastly, productivity does not exist without consistency. No matter what you do, inconsistency will lead to failure.

To see an example of this, look at relationships that fail.

When the relationship begins, one person does all they can to impress and interest the other person. As soon as the other person is interested, they may continue doing what they were doing but stop after some time.

The relationship starts to fail and becomes unproductive when the person is inconsistent in doing what got the other person interested.

Another example would be a bodybuilder starting to lose their physique when they become inconsistent with going to the gym. Since they are not going to the gym consistently, there is no productivity regarding their physique.

Both examples show that inconsistent behavior or actions lead to undesired levels of productivity or failure.

Stay consistent with your efforts, and productivity will follow.

Conclusion

By putting all the bullsh*t aside and keeping it simple through consistency, you will quickly find yourself with increased productivity.

You might be asking yourself, how do I be more consistent?

The answer is simple: show up. No matter what you do, at the very least, you must show up.

If you can show up consistently, questions get answered, and your productivity increases with time.

Your future self will thank you.
